Moni
Moni is a small, uninhabited islet in the Saronic Gulf, just a 10-minute boat ride from the village of Perdika on Aegina island. This protected nature reserve is one of the most magical day-trip destinations in Greece — a place where wild peacocks, deer, and kri-kri goats roam freely among pine forests, and crystal-clear turquoise waters surround pristine beaches.
A Unique Wildlife Sanctuary
Since 1962, Moni island has been a designated natural park managed by the Hellenic Touring Club and now owned by the Monastery of Panagia Chrysoleontissa on Aegina. The island is home to a fascinating mix of free-roaming animals introduced for protection: peacocks, deer, kri-kri wild goats from Crete, squirrels, and falcons. The deer and peacocks are so accustomed to visitors that they often approach the beach bar and sun loungers — making Moni one of the most photogenic and unique Greek islands to visit.
Why Visit Moni Island?
Moni offers a rare combination of wildlife encounters, pristine beaches, and untouched nature, all just 10 minutes from Aegina. Its turquoise waters are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and even cliff jumping, while its pine-covered hills offer scenic hiking trails with panoramic views of the Saronic Gulf, Aegina, and Methana.
